An essential part of the listing process is finding the best product titles! Never underestimate the power of an effective product title. Product titles allow you to catch your customer’s attention and inform them, so don’t waste it! Titles are the #1 component of search relevance and SKU ranking algorithms. In general, here’s a helpful tip for making your optimal product name:
Customers should be able to understand what an item is from the product title on the SRP/PLP search page (browse or search result page) without having to click into the SDP.
- SRP title stands for Search Results Page; the SRP title is the product title customers see when looking at search results or browse pages rather than the actual SDP (product page). SRP titles are considered the “full” product title as they include the items’ exposed attributes. They should always include the brand, product name, category, and exposed attributes.
- SDP title is the title shown when looking at the individual product page (SDP). SDP titles will not include exposed attributes if those attributes are exposed elsewhere on the SDP (often exposed in as size/color options/variations). Product titles will NOT include advertisements, information that promotes purchases or information that is likely to change:
- Example: seasonal/sales period information (Christmas, Coming-of-Age Day, 3-days only, etc.), promotional copy (sale, limited edition, special pricing, home shopping hit item, etc.), delivery-related information (rocket shipping, free shipping, etc.)
