Making Products Searchable

A search term, or search keywords, is a product-related word registered to make your product more searchable. Search terms are one of the most important pieces of information, along with product category, product title, and purchase/search option, that are used by Coupang’s search engine to discover and display your product to customers. Proper search terms enable customers to discover your product more easily.

Now, how should you enter search terms effectively? Auto-complete search terms and relevant search terms, typed in by many customers, have proven effective. Use brand, product title, product category, product feature, country of origin, etc., as keywords to find auto-complete search terms and relevant search terms. Using similar words is also helpful in creating effective search terms. From auto-complete and relevant search terms found, register only those words relevant to your product as search terms.

Choosing the right search terms is important to connect your product to the right customer. Adding terms about form, material, style, etc., lets customers find your products more easily. To improve relevancy, sellers should add the exact words/phrases that customers will use to search for their products. Each listing should have at least five keywords, adding a combination of both English and Korean keywords. Keywords should be SKU-specific; examples include:​

• Style (daily look, wedding, party)
• Country of Manufacture/ Country of Origin​
• Celebrity Names (Black Pink lipstick, Ariana Grande perfume) ​
• Seasonal (Christmas, graduation, valentines) ​
• Features (UV coating, ultra-light, gluten-free) ​
• Benefits (weight loss, eye care, hair growth) ​
• Details from the packaging that are relevant to the product​
• English tags/English translations not captured by systematic search, titles, categories, and Brand Names

Make sure also to follow the below set of guidelines:

• There is no need to re-use product categories and product titles.
• Do not enter the same word twice.
• Do not enter irrelevant words.
• Do not enter a combination of an equal set of words more than once.
  • Fall Padded Clothing, Padded Clothing Nap, Fall Padded Clothing Nap, Padded Clothing Fall Nap –> Enter Fall and Nap only.
• Put a space between product name in Korean and its modifier.
  • UniqueJjamppong –> Unique Jjamppong
  • PrettyChildren’sSandal –> Pretty Children’s Sandal
• Put a space between brand and product names in Korean.
  • LuniaSlipper –> Lunia Slipper
• Do not omit a word when using slash (/).
  • 14/18K –> 14K/18K
