In September, 2022, the Coupang Marketplace team had the honour of meeting sellers across Washington State at a conference co-hosted by Coupang in collaboration with Greater Seattle Partners, the Washington Department of Commerce, Port of Seattle, and Amazon. The event featured esteemed speakers including Port of Seattle Commissioner Sam Cho, Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, Ambassador of South Korea to the US Tae Yong Cho and Washington State Representative Cindy Ryu among others.
The conference, titled “Small Business Growth and Resiliency Through Export Opportunities in U.S.-Korea Trade,” was aimed at small to medium-sized businesses interested in selling to Korea, the world’s 4th largest e-Commerce market. Coupang, Korea’s favorite shopping app, is already active in promoting prosperity for US businesses, creating an annual average of $158.9 million in additional economic output.
Coupang’s Head of Global Marketplace, Gerald Hoe, discussed the ways in which American businesses can boost their revenue by expanding to Korea through Coupang Marketplace. With zero sign up fees and a customer base of approximately 18 million users, Coupang Marketplace is a great, low-risk model for small & medium enterprises who are interested in cross-border selling. US products ranging from health supplements to coffee to consumer electronics are popular on Coupang and sellers are provided with regular updates on trending items. Sellers new to Korea have access to all the tools they need to thrive on the marketplace, including educational resources on Seller University, multilingual seller support and a Service Provider Network to connect businesses with trusted Coupang partners!
The Small Business Growth and Resiliency Conference also featured insightful discussions around the different options available through a Marketplace and Sourcing model, depending on the demand for the product and the seller’s desired level of control. Finally, the event was wrapped up by an inspiring speech from Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland, who spoke to the opportunities of trade and opening up.
