Here are a few ways we are cleaning up e-commerce in Korea.
ESG
Earlier this month, we joined the Green Consumption – Environment, Social & Governance (ESG) Alliance organised by the Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute. This is a firm demonstration of Coupang’s commitment to growing its business in a responsible way that reduces environmental waste. As part of this alliance, we will continue to actively consult community organisations so that we remain at the forefront of sustainable innovation.
Packaging
Our colourful Coupang Fresh Bags are a prime example of this innovation – every day, millions of our customers now wake up to our Fresh Bags waiting on their doorstep. These unique cooling bags can deliver fresh groceries and be washed and reused. They are increasingly replacing the traditional cardboard boxes and are a solid step toward a cleaner future. In addition, we ‘re cutting out excessive packaging with 80% of Rocket deliveries now going boxless.
Vehicles
Of course, we are never ones to settle on our laurels. In 2022, we have even more exciting green initiatives in store. Recently, we announced we will be introducing eco-friendly hydrogen trucks for deliveries between facilities for rocket delivery from the new year and operate it on a trial basis. By harnessing such innovative technology, we hope to reduce fine dust and carbon emissions.
