Every product listed on Coupang must adhere to the rules and regulations of Korea, which is why it is essential for our sellers to take their time when reviewing the Korea Certification (KC Certification) guidelines.
Coupang is dedicated to customer satisfaction, including their safety and wellbeing, which is where understanding Korea Certification (KC) plays a crucial role. KC is a product certification that shows a product meets Korean safety standards. It focuses on prevention and reduction of risks regarding safety, health, or impact on the environment.
There are KC verifications that can only be applied for by a Korean business entity or Korean branch. This means you must set up your own business presence in Korea or arrange for a 3rd party local distributor to sell those products. Thus, we advise sellers to research which items and categories require KC and to sell items that do NOT require KC verification or sell items only after acquiring the KC verification. Generally, products designed for infants/children, electronics, lighting, and batteries will likely require KC. The KC mark will need to be displayed in these instances. Before listing your product, read up on KC rules and regulations below, but please note that this is for reference only. Consult with a local KC service provider for further information or check the Coupang Service Provider Network site under “Obtaining KC mark”.
If you find KC verification possible and necessary for your business, KC information will be entered as follows while listing on WING:
- First, you will need to choose the right product category.
- Then, select the certification information required for your chosen category.
- Once you enter your certificate number, click “Verify” and the KATS database will confirm this. Then, the KC number will appear in the SDP as follows.
Please note that there are penalties for failing to comply with KC. If you need more help understanding KC, please reach out to your Coupang account manager or the helpful folks at helpseller_global@coupang.com, who can point you in the right direction. Coupang does not provide any official or legal advice on KC, so the information above should be regarded as general guidance.
